I can't quite describe it, I guess it's just a feel about each of them Since he showed his serious personality talking to Pain and Konan as Madara with voice of Naoya Uchida who later voice real Madara, for most of time he had mask on his face Obito seemed like main mastermind of everything. There was just something about that mask that made him almost like a very definition of anti ideals, and while I wanted to see his face as I still want to see Kakashi's , it like a very fine villain died once his face was shown.

Even if one compare Madara prior Kaguya appearing with Obito posing as him, real Madara still doesn't feel as manipulative as Obito once was, when it was like is playing with the whole world.

I mean, it is shown that real Madara was manipulator too, but even more than that, he's like a very strong enemy, than how Obito imitated him. The best part about Obito pretending to be Madara was that Obito planned ahead somewhat. Remember, he lost the fight against Kakashi on purpose because he wanted to remove the curse seal that Madara placed on him. This was done so that Obito could be Jinchuriki.

However, Madara still outwitted Obito with the Zetsu implant. It was pretty cool seeing Obito attempting to outsmart Madara. Madara had a vision but Obito carried it out, doing the groundwork based from Madara's blueprint.

I doubt that the two Uchiha knew that MT would turn everyone into Zetsu. I don't think that Obito lost his character when the mask fell off. There were small things here and there that showed Obito's true side. How hurt and fed up he was with the Ninja system.
