Why does my pond liner float

Water is under the liner caused by ground water level higher then level of pond water. The easiest way to fix this is to raise the pond. If you have excess liner then you can flip the liner on top of the rocks that you have and put more rocks on top. Backfill with soil for a berm area. Contain the berm with rocks, plants, landscape edging, ect. Here is a pic of my pond today. If there was no raised berm the liner would be floating.

You have a Hippo!! It happens when ground water can't drain off fast enough and more water is coming into saturated ground. One way to deal with it is to put in a French drain. Another works when there is a lot of pressure against the liner but takes foreknowledge of hippos when building the pond.

A PVC pipe is inserted vertically on the outside of the liner clear to the bottom with a horizontal pipe leading away from the pond to a drainage area.

The top of the vertical pipe must be open at first because trapped air will keep the water from flowing. Once the water is flowing horizontally you can close it off and it works like a siphon. There should be a dip at the end of the horizontal pipe to keep air out of the pipe. This was one of the fiercest storms I have seen in years. All that water dumped from the sky in 15 minutes.

It was raining so hard that you could not see a foot in front of you. Lots of tree branches down in the surrounding yards.

I am so glad I built that berm around the pond. It has rained all spring and summer here this year. Noticed your dog by the pond. Is it a Kuvasz, or a Great Pyrnees? I had a Kuvasz named Grieco after Richard Grieco.

Lost him two years ago in February to arthritis of the spine. Your dog brought back his memory. Nice ponds. Now I see what you were talking about.

You could have added some of the plants you brought me with the fish: instant pond. Lol I just have to see your pond in person. Pics are good, but not the real thing. Don't worry I'll bring my hip waders when I come. Looks like I made a mistake. I knew we were going to get a soaker today so I emptied my pond quite a bit to stop any over flow from happening while at work.

Looks the the last and most recent storms that have occurred here in Jersey have raised the water level significantly and I now have air under my linner where the plant shelves are. It may even be starting to collapse a little as the shelves under the liner are soft and turning to mud.

Live and learn wish I would have had past knowledge of this. I will check out the damage when we dry out and have to acess the situation, any suggestions? The most important area is the shallow end break point; or the point at which your shallow end floor begins to slope down towards the deep end. You will want to attempt to make the liner sit correctly on both sides of the break point; where the shallow end break meets the pool walls.

You may also find it helpful to put two or four bags of salt by the pool steps, if you have in-wall steps, to help seat the liner with minimal stretch in this area. Wrinkles in a liner are sometimes unattractive, they trap debris and the liner colour will most likely wear off on the raised area. In some situations, you can minimize wrinkles by manually working them in with a plunger underwater. If you can work a wrinkle to the edge of your pool, you may be able to lose it in the cove; if there is a cove in your pool.

Wrinkles left on the walls can be dealt with in a similar way, but you also have the option of purposefully floating your liner to help reset them. Certainly you do not want to flood your pool area again, but running a garden hose for a minute behind the wall may help to hydrostatically balance the vinyl long enough to set it in a more desirable, and hopefully wrinkle free, location. If you ended up with floating liner in your pool, then there will likely be little concern for long term damage.

Did your liner reset everywhere without wrinkles, or with very minimal signs of shifting and wrinkles? If so, than you are probably in the clear. The long term concerns of a floating liner is that the water will do extensive damage to pools. If you have a concrete deck around the pool, it may begin to show signs of sinking and cracking.

In addition to weakening concrete at an advanced rate and washing away the backfill around your pool incrementally over time, there is concern for the rusting of your pool walls; if you have galvanized steel walls on your pool. Galvanized steel walls are incredibly durable for inground vinyl pools and seldom have structural failures due to rust where entire wall panel sections need to be replaced; this can happen if the damage from corrosion is bad enough.

Chlorinated water is a much greater concern than simply ground water, however ground water can have adverse pH levels or mineral levels that can contribute to advanced rates of corrosion. Steel walls for inground vinyl pools are meant for direct burial, however they are not meant for underwater use and if you have standing water behind your pool walls that extend up to the shallow end of your pool or higher, than you will need to have this fixed. If you are reading all of this information with the attention to solve a standing ground water issue behind your vinyl liner pool, we strongly encourage you to seek the advice of one of our service professionals who can inspect your pool installation for deficiencies.

Sounds like you don't have any holes drilled through the liner? In that case, you're fortunate that you don't have to worry that pipes buried under the pond are leaking.

I would think that you do have a slight water loss somewhere. I put on my wadders and went into the pond and this is what I now know. There is a lot of water under the liner. The liner is completely floating, which is being sucked up into my bottom drain. I believe that two things have happened. First the heavy rains, and secondly I turned up my water fall to get more flow thru my uv. I need more information on how to attach a hose to a pump and pump the water out.

Is this something that may work itself out since I have turned off the fall? This brings back memories of when i was putting in my pond Turned the water off so I could go to work with intentions of adding several more feet of beautiful well water the next day I think there's pics of it somewhere here on Koiphen I'm not even gonna look for them, too painful!

It really screwed up my pond build. I hope you resolve your problem I certainly feel your frustration! Why do you need to be in Texarkana? I'm heading to the Bulls Shoals area. The hydraulic pressure from water can move mountains. Best bet would be to drain it, put some corrugated drain pipe with a sock on it around the perimeter and either detour or have it go to a outside sump.

Seems to me your water table raised and is being backed up by something. Don't walk around on the bubbles any more please. My relatives own the rv park in Theodosha.
