Can you repeat rares in archeology

Buy the "Lorewalker's Map" 6. Use the map, go do Mantid dig sites for a day 7. Turn all the mantid artifacts into restored artifacts 8. Turn those restored artifacts into Tol'vir fragments 9. Table of Contents. Maxing out to fragments for a race will reduce the chance for a dig site to appear for that race. These will not change until you dig one out.

You only find sites in zones of your level or lower. A level 25 character will have all 4 sites per continent in level 25 zones. This means that no dig sites will appear for that character in Outland or Northrend until he reaches a minimum level for the zones.

Sites are race specific. You can usually guess the race by the location. Some race locations are only available on some continents.

You need both a minimum character level and a minimum archaeology level to use some sites. Each digsite can be searched 6 times before it despawns and a new site spawns. To search a digsite, use the [Survey] ability. The Survey tool will spawn and point in the approximate direction of the artifact. The Survey tool spawns beside you on the ground and looks like a telescope on a tripod.

Walk in the direction that the telescope is pointing, and use Survey again. Repeat doing this until a lootable object appears. The telescope points roughly to the artifact, the closer you are, the more accurate the direction. Beside it is a rod with a light on the top. A red light reading also has the worst accuracy - it is usually best to take several readings to determine the direction. When the green light begins blinking, you are usually within just a few steps of the artifact.

When you discover your find, you'll get fragments specific to a particular race. Note that any race can hunt any other race's artifacts. You are not limited to just yours. There are two main strategies to surveying. You can attempt to triangulate by moving around the outer edge of a digsite. Other people orienteer , simply heading off in the direction indicated until they strike paydirt.

When you have picked up your artifact, be sure to Survey again in that exact spot. Sometimes the artifact will spawn again in the same place.

This section concerns content exclusive to Legion. Starting in Legion, when a character is very close to an artifact, a glow with a shovel handle will appear above their head. If they use the [Survey] ability, the lootable object should appear nearby. For each race in archaeology with the exception of Fossil keystones exist that can be randomly looted when searching for fragments. Any fragments that go over the amount needed to complete the current artifact will carry over to the next puzzle.

It is worth noting that keystones are not bind-on-pickup, and as such can be sold on the auction house or passed to other characters if you do not need them for your own archaeology. They can also be used at the entrance to Cataclysm dungeons to provide a buff to the entire party, though each dungeon requires a specific runestone for the buff to be activated and it is destroyed in the process.

When you get a new fragment, you'll start a research project. You can only work on one artifact per race at a time. When you have enough fragments, click Solve to complete that artifact. You won't waste excess fragments, they will just start the next project. Most artifacts are common. These give a bit of lore or flavor text and an item you can sell for a small profit. You'll still have the description in your journal regardless of what you do with the physical item, so it's ok to sell them.

You can estimate the value of the artifact by the number of fragments required to finish it. You will only be able to work on one artifact for a given race at a time. Once one artifact for a given race is completed, the next one will appear in your journal and you cannot continue until you complete it.

Comment by djdelbert can someone tel me what the last fragment is? Comment by Just one more tip. As with any disc, the shortest distance between any point is from the center of the disc. I know the dig sites are not discs, but they're pretty close. So every time you land on a new dig site, go straight to the middle of it. There is a very big chance you get a yellow or green right on your first survey. That will depend on the area's size, of course.

Some large dig sites, such as the ones in Tanaris, may get you a red one, but go in that direction and you'll find a yellow. Comment by tbrasher level 20 rogue dwarf, want archaeology as secondary, but evertime i go to ironforge and the archaeology trainer nothing happens Comment by LoveHunters For rare items that are account-bound, is it possible to obtain more than one these? Comment by Tontons Archaeology in MoP's Beta Rules That might be for testing purposes but currently we get 6 digs per digsite up from 3 with fragments per dig if you're level archaeologist.

I am currently lvl archaeologist and have no idea if one gets more fragments with lvl archaeology. Skillups If you were hoping for an easy Realm First! Old common artifacts give no skillup not all races tested, but Tol'vir is tested. Don't know if old rare artifacts give any skillup. Common pandaren artifacts give only 3 skill points per artifact. I haven't checked any rare artifacts here either.

Races We've got a new race - Pandaren and 2 more races are currently blank gray for me making it a total of 12 races. I currently see 3 digsites in Pandaria not 4 like in other continents , all in The Jade Forest I suppose for testing, but maybe it's tied to some levelling or just coincidence. All fragments I have gotten this far are Pandaren. All three of their artifacts needed 50 fragments each and vendored for 1 gold each.

My speculation is that prices are to be changed, but 50 fragments per common artifact might be the policy for common Pandaren artifacts. The artifacts have elaborate texts and normal names and it makes me believe they are almost done icons surely aren't made yet. Comment by christiphor What is the last icon for?

And before you say it, no it is not for the Pandaren. I just got attacked in "The Arboretum" whilst doing some Pandaren archaeology by an Ancient Haunt elemental and it dropped a Mogu fragment. On checking my archaeology tab the last icon had lit up as Mogu so it seems that at least for the beta this is the last icon.

It could be that these are only going to drop as loot rather than being discovered by the usual archaeology method. Or it may be that i just haven't been given a Mogu area to survey yet - I'll update when i get more info.

Update- I've just had my first Mogu area to survey around "Terrace of Ten Thunders" so it seems like these fragments can be dug up or potentially drop from some mobs - only had 1 common Mogu project so far. Update- the statues in Mogu and possibly the stones in Pandaren survey areas can spawn the Ancient Spawn mobs that drop Mogu fragments. Comment by d3athraz0r Certainly a fun profession to pass your time with since fishing only brings fish and first aid only brings It's even more fun farming the fragments with a mage alt since you can teleport anywhere on the map without having to wait for boats or ask for portals around , makes it so much easier.

Would be nice implementing new items to the list of things you can dig, would be a primary-non-primary profession for many of us having fun gathering frags. Let's hope they do add new things in the near future! Comment by How a druid does it. RED Turn into a bird, fly and count to three. Comment by Are you only able to do Archaelogy if you have Cata? Comment by I think that Archaeology is the most useful secondary profession in the game Also I think it is easier to do when you get a flying mount because you can get to your Archaeology sites faster.

Comment by Any plans for arch epics in Pandaria, it would be kind of disappointing if Arch didn't give cool stuff like it did in Cata For this turn in, you get 5 Archaeology skill and other rewards.

In terms of skill up value, this is cheap, about half of making a typical common for the same 5 skill-ups, and When commons no longer skill you up, this will still skill you up. It is always 15 fossil fragments, so it is convenient to keep 15 fossil fragments unused and available when Darkmoon Faire gets near, ready to turn in.

You are offered this quest when you reach 75 Archaeology skill. Comment by Arjayemm I'm curious whether anyone else has noticed the same pattern with archaeology in Northrend - namely a huge imbalance between the sites coming up for the races.

A bit more balance would seem to be called for. Comment by If you have the Inscription skill, your Minor Inscription Research will leave you with a stack of Scroll of Recall , which teleport you unreliably past level This is a useful feature for Archaeology.

You can every so often 20 minute cooldown teleport to a somewhat random location there are only a few targets of the scroll and check the zone and nearby zones for new Archaeology sites. Another beneficial use of the Scroll of Recall is that a high portion of the random teleports will put you in Gadgetzan in Tanaris.

If you need a neutral auction house, you have a fair chance it will take you there. Comment by Brandonly17 Can anyone tell what the Fragment increase from being a Dwarf is? Is it a overall higher amount of fragments or just an increased chance at them? Theres a Empty looking slot Near the bottom that looks as if a Hat and a pick-axe with other stuff. Any idea How to fill in that slot. Or is that for if you complete every single item or something?

I unlocked all the races To dig for. Comment by I just hit archaeology, and everything I've read says I can start in Uldum looking for Tol'vir artifacts at , but I don't show any dig sites on my map. I tried turning off all my mods, but it still shows no dig sites in Uldum at all, can anyone help me?

Stop solving the other race items. At least, don't just solve them when you have enough pieces just for that one solve I have been trying to get my last dwarf rare to proc, but most of my dig sites were non-dwarf in EK for days. So instead of solving for Nerubian, Nelf, Troll, and Fossil. I let them build up and now I'm getting almost exclusively Dwarf sites.

Every once in a while I'll get something else, but where before I was barely getting any dwarf, the change is significant. So I'm not sure this is the correct hueristic but it has been working for me all day! If you're down to just the rares of one race and having the same prob, give this a whirl, if it doesn't work, you still have all the pieces to solve with, and you were going to farm there anyway, so why not?

Comment by sapnutt Kk folks just hit proff title on worthless hearthstone"inkeepers daughter" by the way only good for looks cause it uses your reg stone at same time lol! Anywho, wats last icon on your archy tab where you see what you have as far as puzzles to solve? Just for looks or something to unlock? Comment by Antrion Druids rejoice! I recommend using travel form when the light is yellow, flight when it is red, and simply walk if it is a green light. Also, while some finds especially fossils will be near the banks of a river, very rarely if ever are they actually under water in my experience.

Comment by Isadora As of patch 5. Comment by Id just like to point out that there is now 3 greyed out races instead of 1, looks like Mists of Pandaria is going to be bringing along 3 new races and this secondary profession wont be going stagnant after all.

Comment by Zanno As of patch 5. For a max total of 54 fragments from a single digsite. Making this a lot easier to lv :. Comment by crovx With patch 5. Regardless of whether it's common, rare, or the fact the the project has been completed before or not. Project's branch and difficulty still doesn't seem to affect amount of skill point you can get. However it's been reported that it's possible that you may not get skill up at all when solving common project.

Haven't happened to me yet, it could be a bug. Comment by Behrad0 did , they add new mount in mop? Comment by i'm now lvl with archeology and dont get any skill point now for lvl up! Comment by Zephytoth very very, VERY easy to max now, I started doing this on my shaman alt this morning at skill 1, and currently i'm at But once I looked into that, it was the darn ring I already had dug up on my DK.

Comment by Euronomus I can seemingly confirm togahsisokah's post, not solving a races artifact when you are able appears to drastically lower the chance of getting a corresponding digsite.

Keep in mind that the inverse is also true-you should be solving for the races you want asap even in the middle of a dig so when that site is tapped out the one that replaces it will have a much better chance of being something you want. Comment by WIth 5. Anyone know what this is? Looks like Indiana Jones Harrison Jones Comment by As of 5. Then my next solve got me to Then my next solve got me nothing. It's going to be a long haul to at this rate Comment by Mourning Can it really be true, that there is only 4 rares in the entire MoP expansion, or is the wowhead database missing some?

Thanks in advance. Rolled myself a brand new Monk and did half the leveling with Archaeology. Everything was good, tokens for artifacts everywhere. When I reached Uldum and Tol'Vir Hieroglyphs started appearing with the approximate rate of 1 per 4 sites I was even happier After a while 'How come my luck is so bad!

Then 'What the RNG much! After 70 Tol'vir solves without a single hieroglyph I looked more into it. In that time I only got 2 dwarf tokens and I had some common artifacts unsolved from that race. Other races were mostly solved. Nelf fully, Fossil and Troll 1 rare missing and Tol'Vir missing mount, staff, sword. Logged onto my lvl 80 alt and started leveling Archaeology and sure enough, tokens started to reappear.

So thank you Blizzard for making this farm progressively harder. TL DR: Tokens for races stop coming when you have most artifacts solved from that race. Comment by Sounder "The gap between and should be a little easier with an upcoming hotfix. Comment by Can somebody please explain to me why it won't let me learn archaeology?

Comment by shadra To show all solved artifact counts, copy paste this to chat. Comment by any have a cluee to what or how to open last breach in mop alc. Comment by knightmagic I am getting skill ups when i find the artifacts as well now. My skill is currently Did they change that? Comment by djarv84uk Notes on levelling to for Pandaria access - As of 3rd Nov 5. This is a big change as the cap for this used to only be up to 50 or So you don't have to set foot in Pandaria if you don't want to, but you do get the solve bonuses back in Pandaria, so it seems more efficient to move on at anyway.

So if your sole purpose is to hit and not get anything from Pandaria then it may be quicker to stay in the old worlds, especially if you are not max level and taking advantage of the XP bonus for every find as I did on my latest alt that hasn't yet been to Pandaria. Cheers, Gymlea! Pandaria digs still appear at skill level The most efficient way now seems to just be solve everything when you can, don't save pieces up.

All makes it a lot less painful for alt levelling! Comment by Fireandice6 as of MoP it's important to remember that you can now survey each site 6 times , as opposed to 3 before the expansion. Meaning you should be completing a common artifact at every dig site - making the leveling process much quicker. Comment by frakbt Please correct the article to reflect Northrend dig sites become available at , not Comment by I think , that they should add more artifacts into the game.

Just two new races and four not common items , seems not seriously for the huge MOP patch. Comment by brunokbcao I would like to suggest a correction in the following sentence: Completing quests ex.

Pristine Apothecary Tins will grant you a Restored Artifact and three keystones. Players that have returned pristine versions of all artifacts will achieve The Seat of Knowledge. Comment by bruyneelka Couldn't find mention of it elsewhere in comments, but the guide has the rewards flipped for doing a pristine solve. It reads: Completing quests ex. Completing quests ex. Comment by Leiaza I have noticed now I can dig at one location spot 10 times I don't know if this is a bug or they just made it to be easier I got to 50 points in just 5 spots.

Comment by I'm still pretty upset that there isn't any rare end level item that you can get from archeology. Or at least a good transmog weapon or smthng :. Comment by I've been a casual archaeology fan since its inception but I'm curious with the Pandaren and Mogu branches It bugs the hell out of me. Who is that? Comment by Hello all i like to understend how or from where i can get the dragon since that i finish alle the archeology and i get only the skeleon dino pet.

What dig site do you hate the most? What about you? What is that one dig-site that gives you cause to groan when you realize you have to go there to find that next relic? Comment by I'm a 35 dwarf shaman and can't get arrchaeology training, am I doing something wrong? Comment by Flixxie For anyone that is wondering what the 10th Archeology character is, it's Mantid.

I'm assuming it just launched with 5. While you have the Locator, which lasts one day, it will cause any new digsites you discover to be Mantid digsites. Happy bug zapping! Comment by tolgasahin I dont like pandaria Drop.. These may seem like petty changes, but when all combined they are adding significant unnecessary time to this profession.

BTW, this seems to have occurred circa 5. Although I can only conjecture, perhaps this has been done to ease time pressure on crowded cross realm servers by keeping people out of congested areas. We are paying for playing time, not waiting time. Comment by Gormshe Downvoting a comment by someone asking for help, wow you guys are ignorant.

Its a website people, designed to give information. Get off ur high horses and take the drama elsewhere. Or am I missing something? Comment by Voidsoul this articol is actually very helpfull for those who don't know what archaeology is,but it lacks some info for those who alrdy know it. If farming any specific zone or any specific item like Ultramarine Qiraji Battle Tank or the Crawling Claw , you can purchase Mantid Artifact Sonic Locator which will randomize dig sites in all of Azeroth not just Pandaria.

If the dig sites for the zone you are needing is not popping up, you can use any method to re-zone which forces the dig sites to randomize again. For example, I needed to farm the Tol'vir mount. I went to Uldum and as soon as I zoned in, it loaded the Tol'vir dig site.

Once I was done with that dig site, I would either change zones, enter one of the dungeons nearby or relog to force it to load another Tol'vir. Every now and then I would have to do it more than once. This does work for any zone so try it out. Comment by Archaeology takes quite a bit of time and it seems to me that it is harder to find things now than what it was a few patches back.

I'm not sure why Blizzard is making it more time consuming. Comment by Bogdanov89 I suggest you buy the Mantid Artifact Sonic Locator, it will allow you to randomize dig sites anywhere in the old world just by flying from one zone's border to the other - for more info, look at the Mantid Artifact Sonic Locator's page on wowhead.

To get exalted reputation needed for the Locator, just do all the Lorewalker stories across pandaria takes about 1 hour to get full exalted. Comment by There is a nice add-on for assisting you in archaeology. Comment by Ymagine To whom can't see properly the telescope So if you're standing behind the telescope, you may have the thin lens in front of you, the light on the right, and the wide lens in the other side And don't forget the Archy Addon Hope it helps.

Comment by Cropz Haven't seen this mentioned anywhere, oddly, but as of 5. I'm guessing everyone is busy with the Timeless Isle so nobody's doing any Archaeology?

I know I haven't until today lol. Comment by Why are there no Tauren artifacts? If it's green - I run to five. If it's yellow - I run to fifteen It it's red - I fly four seconds in that direction before trying again.

At high levels I'll pick up 30k per fragments. Comment by Yogilaw Good profession to learn, even if you use it purely for gold farming. The Rares are only worth the bag space if you think you will have need of them at some time, a personal choice. The only real problem with the whole process is that the triangulation system for finding the items at dig sites is not that stable. In areas where there are buildings or rock faces you can be bouncing around for ages trying to find the damn thing.

Comment by Discoverer Those who are to try their digging skills in the area of Ironband's excavation site in Loch Modan will be surprised to find a statue which resembles a famous statue in real world. Good luck, adventurers ;. Comment by Loupland In my personal and ever so humble opinion The BEST profession out there!

It's fun and the loot is just cool. With the crown jewel being the sands of time ofcourse But in between that all that funny items that dont really do something, but are just there..

Like the wind chimes. Really awesome. Has anybody else noticed this problem? Has anybody been able to solve it? Comment by Duccis As of 6. So if you want to level Archaeology above, you need to be in WoD-areas. You also need to dig up Brittle Cartography Journal from said areas. More overview of archaeology can be found here: Warlords of Draenor: Archaeology Overview. Comment by decembre Seems like the locations of fragments in Draenor are more likely to be near or under other objects in the world.

So you can save time surveying if you're near bushes, trees, rocks, other debris, or slopes instead of out in the open. Once you get a yellow or green survey, run in the direction indicated till you're near world objects, then survey again. Extra tip: red surveys are very inaccurate and vary by around degrees.

If you get a red result, survey a few more times to see the other results and split the difference. Comment by Duledarth Hello all, i saw that with restored artifact,in wod you can buy Pandaren fragments,i had around ish of those restored and wanted to use it all on Pandaren to get 1 last pristine item.

It first said that i need archeology,i sad ok ,did it pretty fast on dig site in wod you can do 9 digs then went to Arrakoa in Ashran, started buying pandaren fragments ,solved and then i got Umbrella of Chi ji that you need fragments, i was like what the hell i have that already, then i checked archaeology tab and in tab where it should say how many times you solved which item, everything is empty, its like i never did anything and that i will have rares to solve and waste fragments on them even tho i already have those rare items.

I wrote the ticket, 7 days waiting time ofc so will probably just do 3 new races in Dreanor but i dont wanna waste fragments on old stuff that i arleady have. Has anyone else encountered any problems with archaeology in WOd? It may be worth reading Jalopy's comment on the item needed which starts Make sure you have "show digsites" checked on your map Comment by fitsou Is there a maximum number of artifacts you can collect from a race?
